About us
Built by a nurse.
Engineered by her husband.
Carestead is the care record for UK residential and nursing homes. It was built by a registered nurse and a software engineer.
The record of a shift was on paper, in a handover sheet, or in someone’s head. The next carer could not see it, and a relative had to phone the home to ask how the day had gone. That gap is why we built Carestead.
Our story
From a care home ward to the record for the home
Alice spent years as a registered nurse in residential care homes. The clinical work was recorded in pieces: a medicine chart, a handover sheet, a phone call to a relative. The next shift and the relative were looking for the same day, and neither could open it.
Staff needed one place to record the round. A relative needed to see the day the home was willing to share, without phoning the desk and without seeing the medicine chart. The facts were already in the home. They were not in one record.
Her husband Elmonds, a senior software engineer with experience at IBM, Vodafone, and the BBC, built the solution they both knew was needed. Together they founded Carestead.
Today, Carestead is that record for a UK residential or nursing home. Carers record the round. Nurses keep the chart. Managers open the inspection pack. Relatives see the published day.
“A home should be able to show what happened on the shift, and a relative should be able to see the day without a phone call.”
Elmonds, Co-founder and CTO
For residential and nursing homes, the same record covers the round, the staff, the inspection pack, and a relative portal so families can see the day without phoning the desk.
Carestead is for homes in England, Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland. It is not a family coordinator, and it is not a product for other countries.
The founders
A nurse and an engineer. Husband and wife.
Carestead was built by two people with complementary expertise and a shared frustration with how poorly the care world had been served by technology.

Alice
Co-founder · Head of Clinical
Alice is a registered nurse with years of experience in residential care homes. What she kept seeing was not a clinical failure - it was a family one. Adult children who loved their parents but were overwhelmed by their own lives, with no tool that let them stay genuinely connected to what was happening day to day.
She brings that lived perspective to everything Carestead builds. Every feature is tested against one question: does this actually help a busy family stay on top of care without having to drop everything?

Elmonds
Co-founder · CTO
Elmonds is a senior software engineer with experience at IBM, Vodafone, and the BBC. He has spent his career building systems that need to be reliable when it matters.
When Alice described what she was living every day in those care homes, he knew exactly what to build. Carestead is where his engineering experience meets her clinical insight.
What we believe
The values behind every decision we make
These are not wall art. They are the filters we use when we decide what to build, what to remove, and what to never compromise on.
Family-first
Every product decision starts with one question: does this make life easier for the person doing the caring? Features, pricing, and design are all measured against that standard.
Privacy by design
We never sell data, never use it for advertising, and build privacy into every product decision from day one.
Clinically responsible
Carestead does not make clinical decisions. Staff record what happened. The next shift can read it.
Inclusive by default
We design for UK residential and nursing homes: carers, nurses, managers, other staff, and the relatives the home invites.
Where we are
Built for UK care homes.
Carestead is the care record for residential and nursing homes in England, Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland. We encrypt the record, we log access, and we do not sell it.
AES-256 encryption
All data encrypted at rest and in transit (TLS 1.3). No plaintext storage of any health data.
Your data is never sold
We do not use your care data for advertising or share it with third parties. Ever.
Access control
Every access event is logged. You control exactly who can view your care record.
Right to erasure
Request a full account and data deletion at any time from your account settings.
